SM Baguio cut down trees for expansion

It's sad to hear about this news. I just saw this news trending in Twitter and my first reaction was outraged and sympathy. How long till we take part to save our Mother Earth? How long till we realize that time is running short and we need to save our environment? Perhaps we should also hear what SM management have to say to this matter but I wish they would also replace those trees even if takes years for it to grow.

It seems the Aquino administration’s Executive Order 23 or indefinite log ban has recently been placed in the sidelines with the recent issuance of a tree cutting and earth-balling permit to a mall chain.

This after Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ramon Paje granted permission to SM Baguio to cut 172 trees in the mall’s property facing Governor Pack Road, paving the way for the mall’s expansion which will include a centralized parking and bus terminal in the area.

We all know that very slim chance of survival of earth-balled trees when they are transplanted if that is their main plan. If we continue to do this to tourist spots here in the Philippines, naturally, it will loose it's balance. If these continues, the outcome will be terrifying. We don't want that to happen. I really hope they'll do something about this.

Dear SM Baguio, people visit baguio for the trees, the climate and the views. Not because of SM. No to uprooting of pine trees! #SaveBaguioPineTrees Eco bags from SM feels so hypocrite to me now..
