ATM Premiere Night and Movie Review :-)

Thank God I went to the Premiere night of this surprisingly candid Thai movie at SM Megamall Cinema 4 last June 3. Before I watched this,, I was thinking that I might get bored since I don't really have a clue yet about the film, I'm glad my friend Phine was there to fill me up with the story. Plus, we get to see the stars of the movie in person! yup, they were really there to promote the movie which earned a lot of money in Thailand. Apparently, which I don't give a doubt, it's a blockbuster film. Plus, me and my friend can't get enough of the fact that the lead male actor Mr. Sua or Chantavit "Ter" Dhanasevi looks like Luis Manzano and Christian Bautista all in one. :-)
THE STORY
The film is about Ms. Jib, a bank executive played by first-time movie actress Preechaya "Ice" Pongthananikom and Mr. Sua, a bank employee portrayed by Chantavit "Ter" Dhanasevi. The story tells about their secret love affair in a bank that prohibits fraternization among employees. Sua and Jib solve the problem by deciding to get married. But they must first resign from the bank, something neither one of them wants to do.Things get sticky when the bank's ATM machine malfunctions by dispensing twice the amount of money its depositors withdraw. Sua and Jib decide to compete with each other in the bank's efforts to recover the money withdrawn from the defective ATM. Their personal relationship gets affected as they are sent to a town in the outskirts of the city to recover the .money. In the process, they get into comic situations.The task is not that easy, after all. There's a catch - whoever recovers the names of those who withdrew plus the cash keeps his/her job in the bank. This means Sua or Jib will be forced to quit his or her job when they get married.
Interesting is one thing; keeping the audience glued to their seats is another. That was brilliantly executed by its director Rex Theraton. His storytelling was structured and straight-forward. The comic antics of his characters flowed naturally. In fact, it was like watching it in real life.
It also helped that actors and actresses were "game" in exaggerating their facial expressions to elicit more laughter from moviegoers. But even those scenes are dished out in perfect timing, and are not like the uneccessary slapstick scenes Pinoy moviegoers see in some local comedy flicks.
"ATM's" comedy is story-driven. Actors are perfect for their roles and talented enough to unleash its humor. No wonder it grossed 152.5 million baht or the equivalent of 950,000 tickets sold in Bangkok alone. This feat made it climb to number 5 in Thailand's all-time movie hits.
It wouldn't be surprising if "ATM" becomes a hit in the Philippines as well because its story is very relatable.
"ATM" is produced by Thai film outfit Gmm Tai Hub Co., Ltd. It is distributed by Suraya Filem Production and Distribution and released by Star Cinema in the Philippines. It opens in select SM Cinemas on June 6.
