SM City San Lazaro's Job Fair: Two Thumbs Up!

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Last May 1, 2013, SM Supermalls conducted a massive and successful job fair. Thankfully, I was able to cover the event at SM City San Lazaro where the event center was jam packed even before the mall opened at 10 am. Job seekers hoping to land a job hurled inside the mall  when time strikes 10 and eventually, they fall in line and waited patiently. All were ready with their updated resume and formal attire.

Together with Ms. Ruby of Department of Labor and Ms. Lea SM City San Lazaro's mall manager, they officially welcomed all the job seekers in the annual job fair running on their 6th year. This is a superb move from SM Supermalls and DOLE because it will give job seekers a chance to go to their nearest SM mall and apply to the company they want.

According to Ms. Lea, each year job seekers tend to double their population and almost 30-40% gets hired on the spot depending on their qualification. Moreover, DOLE representative Ms. Ruby stated this doesn't mean that our economy is not doing good, this just means that every year there are fresh graduates and some people tend to realize that they need a career shift. Thankfully, more companies tend to accommodate them but not all.

In this line, what are some of the advantages of going to Job Fair?

1. It's a great opportunity to meet employers. Where else can you see many employers in one location, or be seen by them?

2. It's a necessary evil, but also an investment in your future. You probably won’t get a job offer at a fair, but you will make some contacts that may benefit you in the future.

3. It Introduces you to the realities of the job search. When you’re in “a sea of candidates,” you become aware of the competition and you get a better idea of what it takes to get a job.

4. Provides you with a chance to explore employers and career opportunities that you never
may have thought about.

5. Prompts you to do something about your resumé writing and interviewing skills.

6. Provides you with an opportunity for face-to-face contact with a recruiter and a chance to
polish your networking skills (no matter how brief your contact is).

7. Is a great opportunity for situational leadership. Take charge and assert yourself. Get to be known!

8. Face-to-face contact with employers is crucial in a competitive job market. You may send out hundreds of “faceless” resumés or online applications, but direct interaction with employers at a job fair allows you to deliver a “30-second commercial” selling your skills and personal qualities to the employer, ask questions, and make a great impression.

So, there you have it. Next time SM Supermalls and SM City San Lazaro open a job fair, you better watch out for it. In the meantime, I would like to congratulate DOLE and SM Supermalls - SM City San Lazaro for a job well done! Thank you for helping Filipino job seekers land a job the fast, convenient and easy way. ;)

After covering the Job Fair, We were also invited to check out the Foodcourt! My favorite place in every SM Supermall :) It was lunch time and we were treated a delicious meal from Sisig Hooray and Boy Binalot! Yummy!

SM Food Court are having a promo of eco bag for every Php250.00 single receipt or a newspaper treat for every Php200.00 single receipt. This will run until the end of May 2013.

We were also treated a a yummy meriend treat from Kenny Rogers Roasters!

We were served with their new hearty treat that Pork lovers will surely love!

We were served with Roasted Pork Burrito, Ranch Pork Quesadilla, and Roast Pork Belly. All were very delicious but I especially love the Pork Quesadilla, because it is very cheesy.
