Cupcakes by Sonja: Opening New Doors for A Sweet Cause

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

Last October 24, Cupcakes by Sonja claimed another piece of cupcake heaven with the opening of its newest branch at the East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza Mall. The new home for Manila’s favorite cupcakes is also the biggest branch thus far. The store is warm and welcoming, with hints of love and nostalgia.

With its size and inviting interiors, the Shangri-La branch is easily the best place to hang-out this side of the Metro. Indeed, it is a place where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy delicious cupcakes. While the parents talk, children will surely enjoy the shop’s special area for kids—a perfect spot to let the sugar rush pass. And if you are looking to make your special occasions sweeter, it is good to know that the Shangri-La branch can also accommodate family gatherings and corporate events.

2013 is shaping up to be a sweet year for Cupcakes by Sonja as it embarks on new branches that are serving its yummiest creations yet.  Its branches in Glorietta, Rockwell, and Shangri-La add to the flagship store of Serendra—making it a total of four shops. “With Serendra as its original home and new branches in Glorietta and Power Plant Mall, Cupcakes by Sonja opens its latest and biggest store to date at the new wing of Shangri La Plaza Mall. Apart from offering our delicious desserts to walk in customers, it will also be the hub for customized dessert orders in the area," says Anne Gonzalez, Cupcakes by Sonja partner.

Each branch is a unique place of cupcake delight as owner Sonja Ocampo shares, “The design of the store in Serendra was really inspired by New York and all the cupcake stores I visited then. We then refreshed and updated the look of the Glorietta store, made it a little bit more grown-up. It’s still nostalgic, but it’s more current at the same time. It now has more of an industrial vibe, partnered with a sustainable style. We were really drawn to native, recycled, and repurposed materials, so we used up cycled elements such as salvaged wood, antique bricks, and corrugated container metal sheets”.

To celebrate its fourth and biggest branch, Cupcakes by Sonja announced a special partnership with Move.org. This joint advocacy spreads a #sweetcause by supporting the non-profit group in their feeding programs. The goal is to raise enough funds within the next 3 months, which will go to the construction of a kitchen needed for Move.org’s feeding program.

Together with Move.org, Cupcakes by Sonja is on a journey of spreading #sweetcause as it works to create positive change for our children’s youth one sweet tooth at a time.

Cake Cups for a #SweetCause

For this sweet cause, Cupcakes by Sonja has whipped up a new product -- cake cups. Call it making a difference one cake at a time. A portion of the proceeds from cake cups will be donated to support feeding programs of Move.org, giving them the brain and body fuel they need for school.

Cake cups come in three delicious flavors—Tres Leches with Strawberries, Coffee Caramel Biscoff Crunch, and Milk Chocolate and Hazelnut Praline. All three are made of the freshest and sweetest ingredients that Cupcakes by Sonja have come to be known and famous for! Plus, customers get adorable cupcake pencils for every minimum purchase of cake cups to make the #sweetcause as memorable as ever.

Moving forward with Move.org

Molding Optimism and Values through Education—that is what Move.org stands for. Move.org Foundation Inc. is a non-profit organization duly on a mission to build schools and provide care for the underprivileged pre-school children in the Navotas and Malabon areas.

Alex Eduque started Move.org to complete the community development initiatives of Habitat for Humanity Philippines. She has good reason to get involved, having founded the Habitat Youth Council, a young group dedicated to raising funds and building homes for needy Filipinos.

Move.org is a preferred partner-in-mission of Habitat for Humanity Philippines. Because Habitat is limited to building physical structures, they found a partner in Alex who is determined to implement early childhood education and development programs in the Habitat for Humanity communities.

At such a young age, Alex is already making a difference. She is a youth leader, a Habitat for Humanity Ambassador, and the winner of the Outstanding Volunteer Award during the 2013 Global Awards for Fundraising. The latter makes her the first Filipina to win an international awards program endorsed by national associations of fundraisers worldwide, and organized by Resource Alliance based in London.
