Maria Mercedes to premiere on October 7, Monday on Primetime Bida!

 The most awaited local adaptation of the worldwide hit Mexican telenovela that captivated the hearts of many Filipino viewers is set to conquer Philippine television once again starting tomorrow, Monday, October 7,  with the premiere of “Maria Mercedes” on Primetime Bida replacing Julia Montes, Enchong Dee & Enrique Gil's  teleserye “Muling Buksan ang Puso.”


Jessy Mendiola, considered as one of Philippine TV’s prettiest faces today and ABS-CBN’s newest primetime princess will be filling in the shoes of Mexican superstar Thalia, who first played the role of Maria Mercedes. She will portray the iconic role of Mercedes opposite leading men Jake Cuenca as Luis and Jason Abalos as Clavio.




According to Jessy, “The Pinay Maria Mercedes will surely make Filipinos laugh, cry, and fall in love all over again with her colorful story,” “Viewers will get to relate to the story even more as we highlight true Filipino values especially our unconditional love for our family.”

Jessy also got the chance to talk to Thalia and she felt overjoyed with her message.
Jessay said that she feels blessed and lucky to be chosen as the Pinay Maria Mercedes. Thalia is really nice and supportive to her and wishes her good luck. This inspired her to give her best with this project more.

Jessy Mendiola is the only Thalia teleserye remake artist to meet Thalia the International Mexican Superstar gave her best wishes to the Pinay Maria Mercedes which she knows she can do it and give justice to the character. With this, it was a milestone for Jessy and the show to have Thalia give her blessings and best wishes to the actress who will be portraying the role that validates Thalia as a Mexican teleserye superstar and opened bigger opportunity to her.


Follow the bittersweet story of Mercedes as she faces life’s struggles and experiences falling in love for the first time. From a simple life in the province, Mercedes, together with her father and siblings, will move to Manila to move on from the pain caused by her mother. But things wouldn’t go as planned when her father suddenly died and Mercedes was left with no choice but to take on the responsibility of raising her younger brother and sister at her very young age.

As time passed, Mercedes learned her way living in the metro and was able to provide for siblings Rosario (Devon Seron) and Andres (Yogo Singh) by juggling different but decent jobs alongside her childhood friend Clavio.

But her world will take a different turn once her heart starts to beat for the handsome and rich businessman Luis Sancuevas. How will Mercedes deal with her feelings for Luis? Who will go against their budding love? How will fate turn things around as Santiago (Ariel Rivera) enters Mercedes’ life?


Jake Cuenca on the other hand will play the role of Jorge Luis. He said during the interview that he always wanted to challenge himself when it comes to portraying different roles,
he want people to know that he is a versatile actor. He felt blessed to be given the opportunity to work with Jessy Mendiola and with no less than the Direk Chito Rono.
He also added that it's nice to be paired with different leading lady so that he would know how to act with different types of personalities.

 

Jason Abalos, just like Jake Cuenca is very excited with the upcoming teleserye. For him, he thinks Jessy Mendiola is the perfect choice for the role of Maria Mercedes. "We are all happy for Jessy and I know kayang kaya nya ang role na ito, lahat kami excited for this project."


The 26 year old Nikki Gil has totally moved on and now back with a vengeance as she stars opposite with Jessy Mendiola, playing the role of the antagonist Mystica as she make Maria Mercedes's life miserable. According to Nikki, this is the first time that she will play the role of an extreme kontrabida. She added that she's doesn't believe with the term being typecast because she accepted the role of a kontrabida, she just wanted to give her best with every role that comes her way. It's one of the things an actor can do, be a bida or a kontrabida which marks how versatile one actor can be.



Also in the cast are Vina Morales, Dominic Ochoa, Vivian Velez, Nadia Montenegro, Atoy Co, Erika Padilla, Marx Topacio, Alex Castro, and Isabelle De Leon. Chito Roño directs.

The original “Maria Mercedes” aired on ABS-CBN in 1996 and it is considered to be one of the most successful telenovelas in Phillipine TV history.
