Less than a week before his fight against Brandon Rios, Manny Pacquiao took to Twitter to invite Jessica Sanchez to sing the national anthems prior the fight.

Sanchez, an American with Filipino and Mexican blood, was the runner up to Phillip Phillips for the 11th season of American Idol. She sang the Star Spangled banner for Pacquiao’s fight against Timothy Bradley.

After that fight, Sanchez expressed her willingness to sing the Lupang Hinirang. “I don’t speak any Tagalog but I’ve sang in Tagalog before so maybe in the future,” she said in an interview with Sheila Reyes. “We’ll see what happens. I don’t speak anything. I need to learn,” Sanchez added in the same interview.
“Thank you, @JessicaESanchez and bless you,” Pacquiao replied after the singer agreed.
Sanchez also sang the for a 2012 NBA Finals game between the Miami Heat and the Oklahoma City Thunder. And Before her stint at American Idol, Sanchez did the same for a National Football League game between San Diego Chargers against the New York Jets. She had a repeat performance a year later this time with her hometown Chargers taking on the Miami Dolphins.
