California Pizza Kitchen: From a Legendary Pizza to a Global Brand

Sunday, February 23, 2014

California Pizza Kitchen (CPK)  opened their first restaurant in Beverly Hills in 1985. Former federal prosecutors Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax combined their passion for food with fresh high-quality ingredients to create innovative, hearth-baked pizzas such as The Original BBQ Chicken, Thai Chicken and Jamaican Jerk Chicken, cooked in an open kitchen. The restaurant gave California a place in the pizza pantheon alongside Chicago and New York. Their California twist on global flavors resonated with guests, and almost immediately, CPK became a bustling spot for business and family gatherings.

Almost immediately after the first location opened, they expanded from California to more than 250 locations in more than 30 states and 11 countries.  But it doesn’t stop there; you’ll also find CPK bringing smiles to the pizza aisle in your grocer’s freezer, taking the edge off travel fatigue in major airports all over the world, feeding eager fans at sports stadiums and students on college campuses.

California Pizza Kitchen completed an initial public offering in August 2000 and traded on the NASDAQ National Market under the ticker symbol CPKI. Only July 7, 2011, Golden Gate Capital completed the acquisition of CPK and as a result of the acquisition, the company’s common stock is no longer publicly tradedGlobal Restaurant Concepts Inc., a Filipino-owned company, brought the world famous brand in the Philippines. In 1998, the first CPK restaurant outside the United States opened its doors in Glorietta 3, Ayala Center, Makati City.

The Food
Thankfully, I was invited to a Bloggers Day out at CPK and we get to try their delectable dishes, they are also launching a new contest via Social Media, I'll be posting the mechanics so watch out for it.

For starters, I had a Raspberry Iced Tea. I also tried their Lemon Iced and both were very refreshing. Not the usual Iced Tea, perfect for your CPK pizza.

The Salad. This is also a must-try. The crispiness and juiciness of the veggies makes it perfect.I always love salads that offer a remarkable taste and this is just delicious.

My favorite! Tortilla chips with Artichoke Dip. (P425)
I love it because the artichoke dip is oozing with cheese! This is perfect while chatting with friends of family. You'll totally enjoy the dip trust me :)

Another favorite! Five Cheese + Fresh Tomato
Regula (P395) Personal (P250)
Cheese pizza—all grown up. Sliced tomatoes, basil, fresh Mozzarella, Monterey Jack, smoked Gouda, Mozzarella and Pecorino Romano.

The Original BBQ Chicken
Regular (P375) Personal (P225)
Our legendary BBQ sauce, smoked Gouda, red onions and cilantro transform
this original to iconic. This is also good, pizza with a twist of barbecue.

Sicilian Pizza (P695)
Spicy marinara with Italian sausage, spicy Capicola ham, salami, mozzarella,
shavede parmesan, basil and oregano. For people who loves something spicy yet
exciting, a taste that linger on your taste buds, this is for you :)

S'Mores Pizza (P170)
Classic pizza dough topped with butter, crashed graham crackers, dark Belgian
chocolate, marshmallows and walnuts. Served with Vanila Ice Cream. I super love this too.
This is something new to me because I have never tried a dessert with pizza though and ice cream combined. A whole new level of dessert for me.

Overall the food is two thumbs up, we enjoyed the good meal, the price is reasonable because they offer quality and delectable menu. They are truly a passport to a one of a kind meal.
I recommend for you to dine here at California Pizza Kitchen too.
