Thursday, August 21, 2014

The Asian Food Channel (AFC), part of the Scripps Networks Interactive (Scripps) family of lifestyle media brands, will be hosting Canada-based celebrity chef, Bal Arneson, on “Bal Arneson’s Spice Adventure” tour across Asia. Her visit marks the start of Scripps’ exciting line-up of celebrity chefs coming to Asia in the second half of 2014.

Between 14 to 17 August 2014, the host of “Spice of Life with Bal Arneson” and “Spice Goddess”, which airs on AFC, will be visiting the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, where she will host a series of dinner and demonstration events for corporate clients, media and fans. “Spice Goddess” was nominated for a James Beard Award in 2011 and also in the lifestyle category of the NAMIC Vision Award in 2012.

Joining her on the regional tour will be her 20-year old daughter, Anoop, and 10-year old son, Aaron, both of whom are featured on “Spice of Life with Bal Arneson”. Anoop and Aaron will assist Bal as she unleashes her trademark spice infused cooking prowess.

In the Philippines, Bal will host a private dinner event with Cignal at Chef Jessie Rockwell Club, sponsored by William Grant & Sons. Guests can look forward to tasting some of her signature dishes such as Spice Crusted Rib Eye Steaks with Coriander Blue Cheese and a delicious Grilled Veggie Chilli with Fire Roasted Corn. To further entice guests, Bal will pair her menu with the robust flavors of Glenfiddich Whisky 12, Solera 15 and 18.

Bal will also be hosting a public demonstration with Skycable and Megaworld Lifestyle Malls on 16 August (Saturday) at Eastwood Mall Atrium, where fans can watch her cook up a storm and get a taste of her famous dishes in the likes of Sweet Potato and Yam Samosas with Fresh Mango Chutney, Butter Chicken, and Spiced Yoghurt with Local Seasonal Fruits.

Derek Chang, managing director of Scripps, Asia Pacific said, “We are especially happy to be working with Cignal, Sky Cable, and Megaworld Lifestyle Malls for “Bal Arneson’s Spice Adventure” tour. Such interactive events are a unique way for us to provide our subscribers and partners with fun and personal experiences with their favorite AFC chefs. We are excited to share Bal’s talent with our audiences in Asia and we look forward to hosting more of these events in the future.”

Bal Arneson shared, “With deep roots in Asia and having spent 23 years in Canada, I have developed a special culinary craft which blends the best of the East and the West in my Indian-inspired cooking. I am excited to return to Asia with my children, and to visit the Philippines for the first time! I can’t wait to immerse myself in the food culture and find inspiration for my recipes.”

Bal is the author of best-selling cookbooks, Everyday Indian and Bal’s Quick & Healthy Indian, which won the Gourmand World Book Award in the ‘Asian category for Canada’. She recently launched her third cookbook, Bal’s Spice Kitchen.

This tour is made possible by the following sponsors: Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, Eastwood Mall, Cif,  Edsa Shangri-la, Crossover 105.1, Imarflex and De La Salle University College of St. Benilde.
