Sef Cadayona Stars in his First Lead Project Juan Tamad every Sunday

8:44:00 PM

We have always envisioned Juan Tamad as the Filipino version of a very lazy person and like a cliche, we always call someone we know as that lazy as "Juan Tamad". This year, GMA Network creates a tv show about Juan Tamad like no one has seen before. Sef Cadayona stars in his first ever lead project, "Juan Tamad" brought to life by GMA News and Public Affairs in its newest pre-primetime Sunday offering.

Sef Cadayona describes his role as, "Kasi syempre si Juan Tamad, term lang talaga yung tamad eh, pero - meron siyang malaking puso yun 'yung gusto niyang ipakita —family, values, comedy, love interest, at saka helping the community."

Sef feels flattered that he’s entrusted with a role most Pinoys are familiar with — the Philippine folklore character Juan Tamad. This is his biggest break yet that’s why he’s on Cloud 9 these days.

“Ang bilis po ng mga pangyayari but it’s very flattering and I’m fortunate enough to be given this role,” says the 26-year-old Kapuso star.

Sef, who bagged the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Gag/Comedy Program award in the Golden Screen Television Awards for two consecutive years and Best Comedy Actor at the 28th Star Awards for TV last year, wouldn’t let himself become complacent.

Sef said during his interview that he looks up to Bossing Vic Sotto and Michael V. when it comes to comedy. He feels lucky that he had the opportunity of working with them (in Vampire ang Daddy Ko) and (Bubble Gang), both of whom Sef considers as the pillars in the comedy field. He gets inputs from their enormous knowledge and talent in doing funny and unique antics. Sef will take a temporary leave of absence from Vampire to focus on
his new show.

Sef also mentioned that he also feels that pressure of the role he got simply because the connotation of playing a role of a lazy guy on Philippine TV might give him a bad impression to the youth today to be lazy, he explained that this show explains the outcome of being lazy and that it's always best to do your best in everything you do. Sef added that his character has a big heart and gives importance to family values and being positive in life. He’s guided by the motto “Patience is a virtue, and that there are always brighter things ahead.”

Sef has a love interest named Marie Guiguinto a.k.a. Mariang Masipag — Juan’s exact opposite — played by Sef’s fellow Bubble Gang mainstay Max Collins. More than the laugh trip it offers, Juan Tamad aims to impart an important message to the viewers especially the younger generation. Juan will be  willing to do his best just to win Marie's heart. Max said that she welcomes this role as a fresh new character since she usually does a drama role in the past, she also loves doing comedy roles since she has been part of Bubble Gang
 for quite some time already.

There's also an amusing conflict courtesy of Juan and Marie's quarreling families. The ensemble of Juan Tamad also stars veteran actor Roi Vinzon and Marissa Sanchez as Juan's parents and Melanie Marque and Gene Pad i 11 a as Marie's. They constantly fight over a guava tree that stands between their properties.

"I think our main goal is to inform people of what's happening and to Jyst take it lightly. Siyempre ang lalaki naman talaga ng problems dito sa Pilipinas, pero ang kailangan natin is hindi maging negative. Kasi si Juan Tamad, tamad nga pero lagi siyang on a positive note. So 'yun 'yung ! guess na kailangang lagi naming ipakita--na there's always brighter things ahead, there's a rainbow," says Sef.

"Gusto rin naming ipakita sa mga bata ngayon na tamad man si Juan Tamad, hindi niya nakakalimutan na importante sa kanya ang education,'' he stresses.

Juan Tamad is headwritten by Carios Palanca hall of famer Rody Vera and Rak of Aegis playwright Liza Magtotoo. It is directed by veteran comedian Soxie Topacio. Get ready to meet the much-loved Pinoy character as the Juan Tamad of today cracks his way to the viewers hearts every Sunday at 4:45PM only on GMA-7.
