Ang Panday Premieres February 29 via Kapatid Network TV5!

Richard Gutierrez made a name for himself doing different lead roles in GMA Network's fanataseryes, now he levels up his role as he plays the iconic and most coveted role of a blacksmith in TV5's version of "AngPanday".

Meet the cast of Ang Panday:

With just one look at Richard during the Grand Presscon of “Ang Panday,” produced jointly by TV5 and Viva Communications, Inc., it is evident how much the actor appreciates the task set before him. According to Richard, he truly prepared for this role because not everyone gets the chance to play the Panday role.

The first TV version of the popular 70’s comic book novel by Carlo J. Caparas was produced 11 years ago by ABS-CBN starring Jericho Rosales as Flavio. It ran from Nov. 7, 2005 to May 26, 2006, a total of 143 episodes from two seasons. It's not surprising that people would expect a lot from Richard since this is really an iconic role, from Fernando Poe Jr. then Ramon Bong Revilla, some of the best and veteran actors in the industry.

The actor admitted that playing “Ang Panday” is a “big shoe to fill.” He was referring to how the late Fernando Poe Jr., Philippine Cinema’s King of Action Films, popularized and elevated “Ang Panday” to iconic status in the 80’s.

FPJ’s “Ang Panday” in 1980 was followed by “Ang pagbabalik ng Panday (1981),” “Ang Panday: Ikatlong Yugto (1982)” and “Ang Panday IV: Ika-Apat na Aklat.”

(Other film versions of “Ang Panday” include Bong Revilla Jr’s “Dugo ng Panday” and Jinggoy Estrada’s “Hiwaga ng Panday.”)

Knowing his responsibilities at hand after accepting the role of Flavio, Richard said that he immediately started working out in the gym. That was only the start.

“I have to also prepare mentally and even spiritually for this project,Richard said.

“I’m sure nakita ninyo si Richard four or five months ago at nakita naman ninyo kung gaano kabilis ang pagbabago ng kanyang pangangatawan. Makikita nyo sa trailer iba ang itsura niya, iba ang atake niya,” explained Mac. Direk Mac Alejandre is the director of the much awaited tv series. He is all praises on how professional and serious Richard is to his craft. It's was really easy working with him, he added.

He also pointed out that as an actor, the past five years helped him mature more as a person. And he would put those experiences to good use in his role as Flavio.

As to the look of his “Ang Panday,” Mac described, “May mga characters na nakasanayan nila, nainigan nila at minahal nila sa ‘Ang Panday.’ At para ma-update ito nilagay namin ang Panday sa iba’t-ibang panahon, sa iba’t-ibang situations na kailanman hindi pa nararanasan ni Flavio bilang ‘panday.’ We made sure to come out with an interesting new adventures of Panday.”

“Ang Panday” is his first fantaserye with Richard but he has worked with him in three movies namely “Let The Love Begin,” “I Will Always Love you” and “In Your Eyes.”

As for Richard, “Ang Panday” is his big comeback to television after a hiatus from showbiz. He is also taking it “one show at a time” not making future plans yet for his next acting project.

“I’m not thinking of anything else. Buong pagkatao ko nasa ‘Panday.’ It’s perfect timing because matagal nga akong nawala and I’m thankful I was surrounded by supportive people so confident ako,” he expressed.
