Saturday, July 30, 2016

The Internationally acclaimed Filipino Director Brillante Mendoza makes a stop at SM City Masinag last July 29, 2016 for the Brillante Mendoza Film Festival featuring his 2015 Cannes Film Festival entry Taklub, which has won a Special Mention from the Ecumenical Jury. Director Mendoza will also hold a Film Appreciation Workshop to all participants aside from the Taklub Special Screening.

The festival showcased Direk Brillante's 2015 internationally acclaimed film - Taklub which won the 2015 Cannes Film Festival Ecumenical Jury Prize Special Mention. The festival had students as its primary audience, paving the way for a new generation of film enthusiasts.

Taklub (Waray word for “cover”) is the story of how victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda (mostly in Tacloban) are struggling back to normal life despite the odds.

After the Super typhoon Haiyan, which changed the city of Tacloban in the Philippines into its horrendous state, the lives of Bebeth, Larry and Erwin intertwine. The survivors are left to search for the dead, while keeping their sanity intact, and protecting what little faith there may be left. A series of events continue to test their endurance.

A launch attended by prominent members of the local community - government officials, school officials and students and film enthusiasts was held the day before the festival. During the program, SM City Masinag paid tribute to Director Billante Mendoza for the many honors he has brought the country and members of the media had the rare chance of interviewing him up close even a photo op as well.

Another highlight of the festival was the Film Appreciation Workshop after the Taklub screening. In the hour long workshop, the audience got the glimpse of the different elements of the movie which includes: acting, directing, cinematography, script writing that went into this magnificent film as discussed by no less than Direk Brillante Mendoza himself. The aim of the activity is to guide the audience   in understanding and appreciating the film Taklub as a medium of art and communications.
