Julie Anne San Jose Releases her Third Album: Chasing the Light

Tuesday, August 02, 2016

The moment we've all been waiting for, Pop Sweetheart Julie Anne San Jose releases her new album under GMA Records entitled “Chasing The Light.”

Even before the release of the said album, her carrier single and one of her compositions “Naririnig Mo Ba,” has already topped the iTunes charts upon its digital release last month. The song is about faith in love and the hope of feeling in love again.

The singer is grateful for continued fan support, which has carried the promotional song “Naririnig Mo Ba” to the top of the local iTunes chart.

“Nu’ng first day po na ni-release ’yung album sobrang daming magagandang reviews at feedbacks po akong natanggap,” she said.

According to the Kapuso singer-actress, her album is closely similar to her recently released EP “Forever.”

“‘Chasing The Light’ is more mature in the way na nag-evolve ‘yung genre. It’s different, kasi yung nauna kong albums with GMA Records, parang medyo ballad. I think my fans and I are on the same page when it comes to the kind of music I would make. I think they will like the album just how they liked my EPs,” Julie Anne relates.

Julie Anne wrote two tracks for “Chasing The Light” namely “Not A Game” and “Naririnig Mo Ba.” Completing the track list are “Never Alone,” “Left Over,” “All About You,” “Just Stay” as well as “Don’t Make Me Wait” and “Take Me To Nirvana,” which she created in collaboration with Filipino-American artist C-Tru, and the title track.

The album title springs from personal experience. “May mga times kasi sa buhay natin na sobra tayong down or discouraged. Siyempre marami rin akong na-experience na problems sa sarili ko, sa paligid, sa career, sa family,” she said.

“Hindi siya nice kung palagi ka lang nasa dilim. ’Pag nasa dilim ka, kailangan mo ring hanapin ’yung liwanag.” One of the biggest challenges she continues to deal with  is online bashing.

“Wala ka namang magawa kasi siyempre hindi mo naman sila (lahat) mapi-please. Ginagawa mo lang naman ’yung trabaho mo,” she said. “Pero for me it was a challenge and na-thrill din naman ako to do better.”

Her latest album consists of several original songs and a revival, with two of them carrying Julie Anne’s self-written lyrics. She also collaborated with international rapper C-Tru, who has high regard for the star’s talent.

“As a Filipino-American with deep roots in the Philippines, it is an honor to collaborate with talented local artists such as Julie Anne.  It’s amazing to be able to connect the Filipino culture here in the U.S. with my kababayans back home through the universal language of music,” C-Tru claims.

As an advocate for OPM, Julie Anne is also proud to have collaborated with one of the contemporary composers in the local music industry. Edmund Perlas, who has worked with Julie Anne in her previous albums, feels thrilled to be working again with the GMA Artist Center talent.

Edmund believes that Julie Anne has the power to inspire dreamers like him. “This is all surreal to me. Never did I imagine that I would be writing songs for big-name stars who I just used to watch on TV and now, I am actually meeting and working with them. I still can’t believe that I am actually contributing to OPM. And I am very grateful that Julie Anne inspired me to do what I’m most passionate about.”

After finishing college with flying colors last May, Julie Anne wants to take up a masteral degree and maybe teach someday or pursue her chosen course.

“Hopefully next year baka mag-Masters po ako,” she said. “Iniisip ko din magturo, baka Philippine Theater na subject.”

When asked how are things going on with her love life, she admitted that she has been dating and one of the names that has been circulating online is no less than the hunk himself Benjamin Alves. Even Benjamin Alves was very vocal about how he admires Julie Anne's passion with her craft and it's obvious how they compliment each other. They've been tweeting to one another as well. Julie Anne added, "we'll see what happens in the future but for now, we're good friends".
