Outside: Short Film Entry to Cinema One Originals Festival 2016

Friday, November 18, 2016

Starting this Friday, November 18, Outside will be screening alongside other amazing short films in this year's CinemaOne Originals Film Festival!

The film is written and directed by Danielle Chuatico. A filmmaker, Illustrator and Comic Artist. She's a freelance Illustrator and Comic Artist at the same time and Outside is her short film thesis at De La Salle College of Saint Benilde where she is taking up Bachelor of Arts in Digital Filmmaking.

According to Dani during a pocket interview, it was such a big blessing that "Outside" is included in this year's Cinema One Originals, Short Film Category. This film won Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Editing for The Chair, De La Salle College of Saint Benilde Film Thesis Competition.

The story is all about Jess, a 25-year-old successful illustrator who decides to give love a chance. But to meet her online romance IRL, she must overcome her fear of the outside world since she has "agoraphobia". Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by symptoms of anxiety in situations where the person perceives the environment to be unsafe with no easy way to get away. These situations can include open spaces, public transit, shopping malls, or simply being outside the home. Being in these situations may result in a panic attack.

Dani added that this film is somehow like her love story since she also met her current boyfriend online although they are in a long distance relationship. Her "peg" movie is Lost and Translation which is also her favorite movie. She added that before, she used to love watching horror movies but doing a Rom-Com movie is somehow exciting to her as well. Her favorite local movie is Batch '81 and favorite director is Sofia Coppola. If she'll ever direct a full length movie in the future, she would love to work with John Lloyd Cruz because is is one of the most dedicated and great actors today plus he is also a nice guy.

Outside is a cute movie and I love how Dani picked out the perfect cast for this short film. I really love the animation and doddle, it's something new! It's a short film but you'll be wishing that it should be a full length movie. You'll be curious about Agoraphobia and how do people nowadays gets to interact and meet the love of their life online. Congrats Danielle Chuatico on this film!
