Home is where the ART is launch happened last February 24 at Interior Zone, SM City North Edsa. This is in partnership with Manila Fame which is considered as the country's premier design and lifestyle event. Manila FAME is a bi-annual showcase of craftsmanship, design innovation, and artisanship in Philippine products.
The event kick off with three talented designers who were part of RED BOX Design Program. Red Box, a designer development program initiated by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM). It aims to harness talents and nurture them to become the next generation of Philippine designers. From its first cycle, four young designers were awarded as grand winners, and represented the Philippines in select trade shows in London, Milan, and New York City.
The three speakers shared to some of the college students from Mapua and others present at the event how Red Box Design inspired and honed their ideas and craftsmanship.
Viktoria Laguyo, a graduate of University of Sto. Tomas focuses on Furniture design and most of her works were inspired by a "Ballerina theme" because she was fascinated with them plus the fact that she used to be a ballerina in the past as well.
Micki Olaguer’s appreciation of architecture and artworks of different cultures ignites her passion in creating bold yet whimsical jewelry pieces. After the competition, Olaguer represented the Philippines during London Fashion Week’s International Fashion Showcase (IFS) at the Somerset House, London, United Kingdom in February 2016. She also won at the 2016 LOOK of Style Awards (LOSA) for her graphic jewelry using the mother-of-pearl jewelry.
Jim Torres is an industrial designer based in Pampanga. His passion and enthusiasm in furniture design has led him to an apprenticeship with Industria Edition where he was able to express his design sensibilities.
