I’m Drunk, I Love You starring Paulo Avelino & Maja Salvador Premieres on February 15!

“I’m Drunk, I Love You.” is not your usual love story. The highly anticipated offbeat romantic comedy that stars Paulo Avelino and MajaSalvador tackles the hilariously painful side of falling hopelessly in love.
The award-winning pair first worked together in the 2013 film “Status: It’s Complicated” and in the 2015 primetime series “Bridges of Love.”
TBA Productions’ “I’m Drunk, I Love You” revolves around two friends Carson and Dio played by Maja and Paulo, respectively. Carson is a carefree college lass, who, for seven years, secretly harbors romantic feelings towards her best friend Dio, a film student.
Helmed by JP Habac in his feature-length directorial debut with a screenplay co-written with Giancarlo Abrahan, the film tells the story of two college best friends who go on one last road trip where they settle how they really feel for each other.
The director is quick to stress that the film is not the whimsical romance usually played out on the big screen. Instead, it reflects the experiences of real people.
“’I’m Drunk, ILove You.’ is a synthesis of stories from people within my social circles who have had the unfortunate chance of being a victim of a one sided love,” he shares.
“It all began with the title. Liquor and feelings combined is a trove of good material because that experience is highly relatable and the misery that goes with it makes the story all the more easy to tell.”
It’s thisrelatabilityand quirky story that instantly drew Maja into the project.
“Na-excite talagaako [for this movie]. Unangbasako pa langnung script gustong-gusto konasiyanggawin. Magandasiya! It’s something new and hindimabo-bore yungmgatao,” Maja said.
“Hindi langakoyungnaka-relatesa character ko. Lahatngtaomakaka-relate siladito.Dahil [at some point] na-experience nilayungna-experience ng character ko,” Maja added, describing her role as Carson, a young woman who have been pining for her best friendDio played by Paulo.
Aside from the story, Paulo also thinks that the audience will easily connect with the film’s nostalgic setting. Paulo narrated why he chose to accept this film.“I think we need to support Filipino films more than we support foreign films. That’s why I accepted this project because I believe in its quality. There are a lot of genius Filipino filmmakers out there na magaganda ‘yung mga obra nila na kailangan lang talaga natin suportahan,” says Paulo, a co-producer of “I’m Drunk, I Love You.”
During the Blogcon, Paulo said that he loves working with Maja. "Si Maja kasi, parang never pa kami gumawa ng pelikula na kami talaga yung magkatambal. Yung last namin was "Status: It’s Complicated" pero katambal niya doon si Jake tapos ako si Solenn at si ate Euge. Nakakatuwa na after ng "Bridges of Love" marami din naghihintay na magkasama kami ulit. Ito offering na din para sa mga naghihintay,”
“One of the reasons why I wanted to do this [project is because] the story is quite close to my heart. The setting [and being in college], reminded me so much of when I was studying. And thesongs featured in the movie [adds to that nostalgic feel],“ Paulo shares.
The tandem’s favorite scene is the one with Carson singing her heart out in “Huling Gabi” while Dio is watching her and is feeling nostalgic listening to the lyrics of the song. The scene happened during a road trip to La Union where they decided to settle how they feel for each other once and for all. Along the way, they discover the complicated circumstances about their relationship and uncover a lot of peculiarities about themselves.

Music plays an integral part in the movie’s narrative. Featured in the film aresongs from some of the countries top OPM artists such as Juan Miguel Severo, Kai Honasan, Jimmy Bondoc, Parokya Ni Edgar, Cynthia Alexander, 3D (JohnoyDanao, EbeDancel, Bullet Dumas), Shirebound and Busking, Out of Body Special, andAngBandang Shirley.
Both Maja and Paulo also performed covers of songs that will be featured in the movie and the upcoming official soundtrack album. Maja sang her version of Juan Miguel Severo’s “Huling Gabi” while Paulo performed Shirebound and Busking’s “Lloydy”.The two also recorded duets for “ManiwalaKa Sana” by Parokya Ni Edgar and “HanggangDito Na Lang” by Jimmy Bondoc.
Joining Maja and Paulo in “I’m Drunk, I Love You” are Dominic Roco, Jasmine Curtis-Smith with the special participations of Jim Paredes and Irma Adlawan.
Meanwhile, TBA chief executive producer E.A. Rocha announced that along with “I’m Drunk, I Love You,” the bonus film “Angelito” will also be shown.”
“Angelito,” a 20-minute film, is the spinoff of the sequel of the award-winning “Heneral Luna.” Its story is based loosely on past real-life events, picking up on the lives of Antonio Luna's aides-de-camp Jose and Manuel Bernal.
It’s the first film offering of the year from TBA (Tuko Film Productions, Buchi Boy Entertainment, Artikulo Uno Productions), the producers behind the critically acclaimed epic “Heneral Luna” and MMFF 2016 Best Picture “Sunday Beauty Queen”.
Opening just in time for the love month, TBA andDirek JP believe that “I’m Drunk, I Love You.” is a definite must-see.
