Pililia Wind Farm: The Towering Windmills of Rizal

Thursday, September 07, 2017

It was summer, since I didn't get the chance to go anywhere this summer, last April 2017, I decided to explore more my hometown which is Rizal, things that I haven't done for several years. I've always wanted to explore different places and connect more to it rather than just take photos and upload it on social media. By means of traveling, you get to learn more about the places you visit, the people you meet and the experience that you gain.

You don't need to go as far as Bangui just to see the humongous windmills, you can now visit Pililia Wind Farm, the same company which operates Bangui Windmills in Ilocos Norte. The 27 wind turbines supplements electricity in Metro Manila and Rizal. The project started with Governor Ynares and later on continued by his mother Gov. Rebecca Ynarez.

Aside from generating power supply, local officials see the wind farm as a potential tourism boost in Rizal, particularly in Pililla town. The towers rise high overlooking the Laguna Lake and other Rizal municipalities.

Since I was really excited to go here, googling online gives you a lot of time to prepare for the trip, there are only a few blogs who wrote about this place which is why I also relied to the people whom I asked around when we got to Tanay. It's a long and bumpy ride which is why you need to go there really early and make sure that the weather is sunny so that you can take good pictures to maximize your experience.

Going there we also passed by fruit stands where you can buy fresh buko juice and fruit shakes as well.

I haven't been to Bangui Windmills of Ilocos which is why I can't compare the experience yet although the difference is quite obvious since at Bangui, the windmills are positioned at the beach aligned perfectly while here at Pililia, they are scattered across the mountains making it even more picturesque.

The grass and the mountains gives it a dramatic effect though.

You can buy souvenirs here as well. Cute wind turbines for remembrance.
 I bought a handful.

There's also comfort room in the area, I'm pretty sure they're renovated some in the
area by this time.

How to get to Pililia Wind Farm:

via Private Transportation
(Be careful while you drive since the road is a bit rough)

1. Drive to Tanay Town
2. Go up Brgy. Sampaloc, Tanay
3. At the intersection of Sampaloc, take the road which leads to Real Quezon. One landmark you will notice is the  JE Camp.
4. Straight ahead around 1km from Sampaloc intersection, look for Sampaloc Inn then make a right turn to Masalat Road.
5. Once in Pililia, the landmark that will tell you that you are near the windfarm is the Villa Lorenza Resort. Drive straight ahead for about 15 minutes and you'll arrive at the entrance of the wind farm.

via Public Transportation
1. Look for public transportation (FX or Jeep) going to Tanay. There are terminals at Crossing specifically Starmall Crossing.
2. Ask the kundoktor or the Driver to drop you off at Sampaloc where you can ride a tricycle straight to Pililia Wind Farm. Tricycle will charge you Php 150-200 so it's better to go there in big groups.

I really enjoyed my adventure on going to Pililia Wind Farm. Before going here, I also drop by Regina Rica: Regina Rosarii Institute of Contemplation in Asia which is also near the vicinity.

So, if you're up to an adventure, visit Pililia Wind Farms. Enjoy!
